ReCORDING FOR DUMMIES

Big Picture fixed

The diagram above is a simple explanation of the process of recording. It shows the signal path from the various inputs through to the finished product or output. The idea of the recording for dummies site is that each one of these elements would be explained in detail and formatted in a way that would create a reference manual. This will make life easy so that at any stage of the recording process, the users of the site would have a handy reference to help them get the best results. For example, what is the best way to record and produce vocals? This can be broken down into preparing the artist, choosing the most appropriate mic, positioning the mic correctly, getting the best takes, compiling, editing, using compression, eq, effects, vocals in the mix etc.

As a musician, recording engineer & producer for over 30 years, working with some of the best in the business, I feel a website dedicated to passing the knowledge I have gained to budding recording engineers and producers as well as musicians that want to learn about the dark arts of recording, is a good idea. At the moment it’s really just a holding page to see if there is enough traffic to this website and enough people interested in learning about recording to make it worth my while developing further.
